Can Apple Fitness+ Change YOUR Life? |
|
Ironically, today I wanted to talk about Apple Services, specifically, fitness plus. And yesterday, I forgot my Apple Watch, the one thing that I wear ALWAYS to track my movement.
Now I’m an Apple One Premium subscriber, which gives me 6 family accounts, all with access to Apple Music (2 of us use it), Apple TV plus, which we watch occasionally, mainly due to lack of time, Arcade which I and the kids use quite a bit, Apple News Plus (Thanks Apple), Fitness Plus and 2 TB of shared storage. Apple Fitness Plus. It’s amazing. I haven’t really made use of it. The trainers are all excellent. But life is busy. I work in field sales, in the hospitality industry, so I’m out and about a lot, I walk a lot but I also grab food while I’m out A LOT. And that food has a tendency not to be the healthiest there is. Whether its a breakfast bap (one of my dear favourites) or the legendary UK meal deals of a packaged sandwich, snack and drink for about $3.50, my food tends to be pretty carb heavy and beige. And while I enjoy the gym, my last job was so heavy on hours that I just struggled to find the time. So in my new role, Gym is a benefit, but a benefit that starts in November this year. I have an October to deal with before then, so how much of a dent can I make in my fitness, weight and shape between now and then, making use of Apple’s Fitness Plus and some iPhone food tracking apps? I guess we’ll find out. As I’ve mentioned, I’m an Apple Watch user on the daily, with my trusty Apple Watch SE 1st gen which I’ve been wearing since release day. I almost made it to a full year of closing all my rings, only to miss it by 4 calories one day when I’d left it on charge in the evening and lost track of time. So as I’m already giving Apple £29.99 a month for Apple One Premiere, I might as well make the most of that. I have the usual handful of weights, dumbbells with swappable plates, a barbell, and this pull up bar that Team Kinetix Asked #iCaveAnswers there’s a pull up bar on the doorway to the iCave. How many pull ups can you do? - well probably about 4 at a time, but more because of the weight I’m lifting up there than a lack of strength I think, but its probably best to attack that from both angles, and we’ll see at the end of the month if that improves. So here’s the plan - I’m going to dial up the daily red move ring on Apple Watch to 1000 calories, which on a busy day at work I’ll hit just with walking, but on the admin days I’ll need to do some extra for. I’m aiming to do at least one Fitness Plus workout a day too, and I’ll vary that between strength, core, and some of the others through the week. But I think most importantly, you can’t outrun your fork, so I need to address food too. I’ll be tracking what I eat on my iPhone, - MyFitnessPal seems to be the most popular of the tracking apps but if you have another suggestion I’m all ears - please let me know in the comments. I’ll try to drink more water too - I’m kind of surprised that Apple doesn’t have a food tracker app of their own, it seems exactly in the wheelhouse of what they’re doing with fitness and the watch in general, so maybe there’s room for them to grow there in the future. If you have any (reasonable) fitness challenges you’d like to throw my way, feel free, I know we have a literal Ninja Warrior competitor in the audience in the form of Team Kinetix, so advice is very welcome. So if you have a favourite workout from Apple Fitness Plus you’d like me to try too, please let me know in the comments. Wish me luck!
