"Amaranth" is the second single of Finnish symphonic power metal quintet Nightwish's Dark Passion Play album.

Anette Olzon said that the video (which was released together with the single) is based on a Finnish painting called "The Wounded Angel", which was painted in the turn of the last century by Hugo Simberg and voted Finnish national painting in 2006.

The video alternatingly shows the band playing underground and a scenes of a story of two boys who find a fallen angel. It begins with the two boys playing by a stream, having a good time, but when one of the boys rounds up a small boat, he looks up, and sees an angel lying next to a riverbed, unconscious and bleeding from her eyes. The boy points out the angel to his friend, and they run to her aid. Subsequently, they are seen carrying the now blindfolded angel on a makeshift stretcher. They travel to a nearby village in order to treat her. Residents of the village are confused and some look at her with contempt, possibly seeing her not as an angel, but as an object of evil. This may be in reference to Lucifer, who fell from heaven during the great battle. Because of Lucifer's treachery, a fallen angel is often viewed as evil.

"Amaranth" es el decimosexto single de la banda finlandesa de metal sinfónico, Nightwish, y el segundo en el que la vocalista principal es Anette Olzon.

El vídeo es el primero del álbum "Dark Passion Play", sucedido por Bye Bye Beautiful. En junio de 2007, Anette Olzon dijo que el vídeo (el cual fue lanzado con el single) estaría basado en una pintura finlandesa llamada "El Ángel Herido" de Hugo Simberg, la cual fue pintada en el transcurso del siglo XX.

El video posiblemente hace referencia a Lucifer, o mejor dicho, Luzbel, ángel que cayó del cielo tras las dudas de su corazón.

En términos generales, el tema de la canción se refiere a la lucha interna entre el Bien y el Mal que ocurre en cada uno de nosotros.
