Electric car owners discovered extremely cold weather saps their batteries faster. Cars like the Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt EV can get 200-300 miles per charge in ideal conditions. But a new AAA study found temperature changes that equation, and the cars’ range fell by an average of 41 percent when the temperature dropped to 20 degrees.
