Samurai Warriors 1 - All CG cutscenes (OP & ED1) [1080p] [JPN] [EN/ZH/JA subtitles] |
|
Yay, the first "proper" video in my SW1 translation and HD project! 🎉
Again, my aim is to provide an accurate translation while explaining the background historical context, so expect walls of text which you will have to pause to read. If you want a smooth but not necessary accurate translation please look for video of the English localisation of the game. I copied the English localisation as a starting point, then edited what I thought was not faithful to the original Japanese text/dialogues. Most of the cutscene titles were lost in translation in the English localisation because the original Japanese titles were either too long to be translated fully, or they contained historical references that foreigners would not understand. About 40% of the English subtitles (and obviously, all the Chinese subtitles) in this video is my work. The famous Kouwakamai piece, Atsumori (4:49 - 5:29) was a particularly difficult part for me. I had to look for information on the poem, Genpei War and Buddhist terms in both Japanese and Chinese, then translate what I learnt into English. The part only lasts for 40 seconds but I spent more than a week researching it. By the way, the English translation of Atsumori you can find on the internet is very inaccurate and I hope people could stop quoting it. "人間五十年" in this poem definitely does not refer to the human lifespan. The misinterpretation probably stems from the misunderstanding of the historical meaning of "人間". It should be pronounced as "jinkan" not "ningen" here, which means "human world", the older and original meaning of the term (BTW, in Chinese, "人間" still retains this meaning), instead of "human", the modern meaning. Kosugi-san (the seiyuu of Nobunaga) mispronounced the word in the cutscene, but it should be the writer's responsibility to specify this fact in his script. By contrasting the passage of time in the Lower Heaven and the human world, the author was trying to emphasise the transience of human existence, as evidenced by the next line, "nothing is imperishable". This project is very special and personal to me. Making this video brought back so many memories from more than 10 years ago when I didn't speak a lick of Japanese. Right now, I am trying to complete the game on PCSX2 so that I can record footage for this project. For the first time, I am playing a Musou Warriors game with a perfect understanding of the story. It's hard to think that I'm translating the game that was double Dutch to me when I first played it...it's something I never imagined 10 years ago. I hope you enjoy and learn something from this video! :) I am working on the translation of the real-time rendered endings (ED 2). ---------- Timestamps 0:00 - Opening 2:03 - Wind Forest Fire Mountain, Stirring (OP - Sanada Yukimura, Uesugi Kenshin, Kunoichi, Takeda Shingen) 3:11 - Two Kabukimono (OP - Maeda Keiji, Saika Magoichi) 4:48 - Atsumori (OP - Oda Nobunaga, Oichi, Nouhime, Hattori Hanzou) 6:36 - Confidant (OP - Akechi Mitsuhide, Mori Ranmaru) 8:07 - A Lost Property and a Gift (OP - Ishikawa Goemon, Okuni) 9:08 - Conquest of Oushuu (OP - Date Masamune) 10:18 - Sanada is the First Soldier of Japan (ED - Sanada Yukimura) 11:48 - He Who is Favoured by the Heavens (ED - Maeda Keiji) 13:00 - Nothing is Imperishable (ED - Oda Nobunaga) 14:39 - The White Blade (ED - Akechi Mitsuhide) 15:55 - The Thief Who Stole This Land (ED - Ishikawa Goemon) 16:49 - A Life-long Prosperity is but One Cup of Sake (ED - Uesugi Kenshin) 18:25 - Hand in Hand (ED - Oichi) 19:51 - Grand Finale (ED - Okuni) 21:35 - The Bewitching Flower, Blooming in the Night (ED - Kunoichi) 22:30 - I Obey Only the Sound of My Gunshot (ED - Saika Magoichi) 23:43 - Triumph of the Righteousness (ED - Takeda Shingen) 24:52 - Masamune's Ambition (ED - Date Masamune) 25:51 - With Love and Life (ED - Nouhime) 27:09 - The Last Warrior, the Last Ninja (ED - Hattori Hanzou) 28:09 - The Distant Bond (ED - Mori Ranmaru) ---------- Software used: Topaz Video Enhance AI 2.2.0 (Upscaling) Adobe Premiere Pro 14 Red Giant Magic Bullet Suite 14 - Denoiser III (Denoising and sharpening) In Topaz Video Enhance AI I used the Gaia High Quality v5 upscaling model, except Oichi's ED which I used Theia Fine Tune Fidelity in some parts, because for some reason the characters' faces in Oichi's ED got severely distorted when I used the Gaia model. However, I only used Theia in the scenes with close-ups in Oichi's ED, since Gaia is overall better at inserting details, thus making CG animations look more natural.
