Healing the Void: Overfed and Starving | Holland Dickirson | TEDxFondduLac

video thumbnail
Binge Eating Disorder is a more recent health concern when it comes to being officially recognized by health professionals, leading speaker Holland Dickirson on the path of enlightening others to what B.E.D. feels like, how one can be overfed and starving, and how it is possible to overcome. This Talk was produced in partnership with Sirna Productions. Holland Dickirson is a senior at Marian University working toward a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Psychology. She aims to pursue a career in psychiatric nursing and eventually attain a master’s degree to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. In her spare time, Holland enjoys spending time with her 3-year-old daughter, reading, playing guitar, and volunteering. Some of her current and past volunteer activities include: facilitating an art group for juveniles and a bible-based recovery group for women in the FDL jail, teen mentoring with Youth for Christ, and assisting students with emotional and behavioral disorders at Evans Elementary school.

Holland is passionate about mental health advocacy and strives to use her own experiences to encourage and empathize with others. She is excited to use this platform as a way to further break the stigmas and misconceptions that often surround disordered eating. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
