The protagonist, Frey Holland (Ella Balinska) is a young woman who is transported from New York City to the fantasy world of Athia. She uses magical powers to journey through it and survive in order to find her way home. Athia is under the tyrannical rule of the Tantas, which include Tanta Sila (Janina Gavankar) and Tanta Prave (Pollyanna McIntosh). Other characters include Frey's sentient bracelet Cuff (Jonathan Cake), the archivist Johedy (Keala Settle), and Auden (Monica Barbaro).

Forspoken features an ensemble cast, led by Ella Balinksa’s Frey Holland. In her journey, she’ll meet many friends and foes – including terrifying, corrupted witches (the aforementioned Tantas), and friendly Athians who require her help.

Frey’s closest companions will be Cuff, voiced by Jonathan Cake – the sentient wrist cuff who helps Frey control her powers – and Johedy (Keala Settle), an Athian archivist who wants the land rid of the Tantas and their corrupting influence. Auden (Monica Barbaro), a mysterious young woman, will also aid Frey on her quest, providing her with the confidence and support she needs to travel through Athia.

What we've seen so far of Forspoken showcases how Frey will be a particularly athletic hero. The main character has a skill known as magic parkour, which allows her to run fast, leap great distances, and use the environment to swing across gaps and climb vertical inclines.

The latest look at the upcoming adventure offered insight into how magic is at the center of everything in Forspoken, from combat to exploration. Frey is outfitted with a variety of magical spells and combat styles that you can use and adapt depending on your preferred style of play. From long distance powers to close range spells, there's all manner of magical attacks to experiment with.

Frey, Johedy, Auden, and Cuff will have deadly competition in their quest for freedom, as they face off against Tanta Sila (Janina Gavankar), Tanta Prave (Pollyanna McIntosh), and the rest of the corrupted tyrants. While there are many Tantas in the game, only two ‘lead’ Tantas have been revealed so far. They’re described as hideous dictators who were once respected, but eventually fell to the power of the Break.
