1973: The MUHAMMAD ALI of MARBLES | Nationwide | Classic BBC Sport | BBC Archive

Len Smith is quite possibly the most dominant sportsperson on the planet. The Crawley resident is crafting perfect porcelain spheres from discarded toilet bowls, as he prepares to defend his world title at the 1973 British and World Marbles Championship on the hallowed concrete circle at Tinsley Green. If he wins, Len will claim the twelfth world title of his marbling career - and his sixth in successive years - a frankly astonishing and possibly unsurpassable sporting feat.

Nationwide's Bernard Falk quizzes the fleet-thumbed marbling legend about how it feels to be the greatest marbler who ever lived, and whether he feels his achievements are somewhat overlooked due to the relative obscurity of his sport.

Originally broadcast 12 April, 1973.
