Whether you are in the market for a sports chronograph, a dive watch, or independent haute horlogerie, we have the watch to match your tastes and your wrist. The Vacheron Constantin Overseas sports watch launched in 1996, but a chronograph variant didn’t bow until 1999. Even then, the resulting watch was too small to compete with market leading high horology sports watches from Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe. All of that changed with the second generation Overseas Chronograph of 2004. Vacheron’s second interpretation of a steel luxury sports watch was larger across the model range, but the 42mm chronograph in particular benefitted from newfound substance and wrist presence. Today’s show highlights a representative example of the generation two Overseas Chrono with a black dial, stainless steel case, and a full steel integrated bracelet. While large, it’s not thick at 12.6mm, and the fit is a better match for a small wrist than the 2016-present generation three chronograph. All links on both sides of the bracelet are removable, so an ideal fit is assured. Vacheron designed the Overseas to channel the 1977 222 sports watch, and the tonneau-style case combines with a prominent bezel to complete the historical reference. The bezel’s “Maltese cross” motif is one of at least five occurrences of the Vacheron brand logo on this watch. A black dial sports the famous generation two “grande date” and “big eye” minute counter. Applied hour indices and a herringbone dial texture complete the face of the watch. A caseback image of the Italian naval training vessel “Amerigo Vespucci” covers the Vacheron caliber 1137. It’s a Frederic Piguet 1185 with a big date module, but that’s good news for watch collectors. The high horology F. Piguet is a hand-finished and hand regulated integrated automatic chronograph movement. It sports a thin profile, a vertical clutch with column wheel, and respectable finish equal to the image of Vacheron and the Overseas. 150-meter water resistance and 25,000 a/m magnetism resistance are provided. • Blancpain Air Command Flyback Chronograph AC01-1130-63A $21,950 • Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Complete Calendar 5066F-1140-52B $18,950 o Also known as “quantieme complet” • Breitling Aerospace Evo V7936310/BD60 black titanium pilot’s watch $3,295 • Breitling Navitimer Reference 806 1959 Re-edition AB0910371B1X1 $8,495 • Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph B0127211B1X1 $6,495 • Bremont Supermarine SE301 Altitude / Felix the Cat S301-ALT1T-2018-S o Not yet priced: email tmosso@thewatchbox.com for a quote • F.P.
