First three years, next three generations | Lysa Parker | TEDxHuntsville |
|
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The way in which we care for our children during their first three years can have lasting and profound effects on their lives and future generations. Only recently have scientists in the fields of neuroscience and epigenetics revealed previously unimaginable possibilities for radical changes that are within our control, changes that help develop our brains and our capacities for empathy and compassion. Our survival as a human community may depend on it.
Advocating for children and families has been Lysa's passion for over thirty years. Her experience as a teacher, family life educator, mother, and grandmother has fueled her determination to improve the care of children and support families. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Alabama, is the cofounder of a nonprofit organization that supports families and is the coauthor of an award-winning book on parenting. Lysa currently serves as the president of the Southeastern Council on Family Relations. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) |
