Therefore, Instagram needs people to stay on the app, in order to sell ad space.

How do they get people to stay on the app?

The make sure each interaction is as addictive or “sticky” as possible.

This means they only want you to see the best possible content each time you’re on the app - after all that’s what keeps us coming back, right?

But in order to find the best content on the app, they have to use their infamous algorithm. They can’t do it all manually.

Engagement rate, or the percentage of engagement on each post, is what IG’s algorithm uses to determine content quality.

If you get great engagement, Insta is going to want to push your content further out there, and help you get more followers.
