Battling Naïveté: Asian-American Perspective | Angel Tang & Jisu Oh | TEDxPittsfordMendonHighSchool

video thumbnail
Angel Tang and Jisu Oh, sophomores at Pittsford Mendon, give the talk “Battling Naivete—An Asian American Perspective.” Their speech touched upon their experiences as Asian American students in Pittsford—from microaggressions to witnessing hate crimes over the news—they illustrate the clear need for change and acceptance. They illustrate how Asian-American issues may not be apparent at first, but they are ever-present from inside the school system to elsewhere, and it is the global community's duty to address this issue. Angel is involved in Pittsford Mendon's Model UN, Newspaper, and Yearbook clubs, and has recently co-founded the Rochester based coding organization ROC Code which strives to connect student programmers to those interested in coding. In her spare time, Angel loves to compose poetry, read psych books, and jam out to some Chinese pop music.

Jisu's favorite subjects are English and math, and she participates in the Literary Magazine at Mendon. Outside of school, Jisu enjoys playing tennis and watching Ghibli movies. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
