NOWRDC Symposium 2022 - Floating Offshore Wind Deep Dive - Innovative Design Solutions |
|
To date, only 123 MW of offshore wind has been installed globally and there have been no commercial installations in the United States yet. However, it is becoming clearer that floating offshore wind will be needed as part of the Nation’s decarbonization plans. In September 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy announced a new government initiative called the “Floating Offshore Wind Shot”. This new initiative calls for 15 GW of offshore wind and a cost reduction of 70% by 2035, demonstrating the urgency for the acceleration of floating offshore wind technology. The first of 2 panels taking a deep dive into floating offshore wind, this panel looks at projects working on making floating offshore wind a reality. Speakers and projects include:
-Zachary Miller, Chief Operating Officer, Triton Systems, Innovative Anchoring System for Floating Offshore Wind -John Halkyard, Sc.D., P.E., Chairman, Deep Reach Technology, Inc., Application of Novel Offshore Oil & Gas Platforms to the Support of Large Wind Turbines -José Cerna Garcia-Conde, Chief Technology Officer, Esteyco, Evolved spar concrete substructure for floating offshore wind (TELWIND Technology) Moderator: Monica Maher, PE, Offshore Wind Specialist with GDIT in support of U.S. DOE WETO |
