Brian May’s “A Brief History of 3-D”
This super documentary was produced for Sky 3D in 2011, and is an exploration of the evolution of 3-D from the Victorian era through the digital 3-D of today. Godfather of Stereo Brian May leads the incredible voyage, interviewing noted historians and filmmakers, popping in and out of 3-D, manipulating space-time, doing swaps with David Attenborough, and leading a comprehensive and very entertaining journey through the history of stereoscopy. Notes on this file: - I free-viewed the whole thing (and so can you!) – but also feel free to use your OWL VR-kit…. This is the kind of production the kit was made for. I had to modify the aspect ratio and I think it’s near enough how it’s supposed to be viewed. - On a test upload, it picked me up for copyright in a few places. I considered letting it fly, but to be safe, I have done my best to replace the music in these places with something inane and copyright-free. Once was for How to Train Your Dragon, but the rest was music by Queen, which is heavily used in this production… It helps when your host is in the greatest band of all time! Fam, I hated to replace it. You’re gonna hate it too. Luckily, I couldn’t replace it all, because some of it was voiced over. - In a couple of places, I re-edited segments into parallel, because there were a couple of cards and video segments that were broadcast in cross-view. Thank you to i3DMovieMaker! Sometimes there will be a titular overlay (like a person’s name) which looks recessed, but the image is parallel – they just didn’t position the words so they protruded enough. Done reading my liner notes? Enjoy this far-too-brief history of 3-D! |
