The 2024 Hyundai Kona is all-new this year, growing and maturing from the lovable and playful previous gen Hyundai Kona that was a surprise sales success for Hyundai into a larger vehicle that takes direct aim at the Honda HR-V, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Subaru Crosstrek. All three of those vehicles are excellent in their own ways, so how does the 2024 Hyundai Kona stack up against such stiff competition? In this initial drive of the Hyundai Kona in both N Line and Limited trims, it compares favorably to the competition. The 1.6 liter turbo is a carryover powertrain, now thankfully paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission, and it's all running through HTRAC all wheel drive. With 8 inches of ground clearance and over 25 cubic feet of cargo space, this makes the 2024 Hyundai Kona more versatile and livable than most competitors. The only areas in which the Hyundai Kona suffers is fuel economy, which is only decent. It was averaging around 26mpg circling Charleston, South Carolina, which isn't BAD... but it's not good, either.
