If you are putting most of your pressure on your back leg when doing lunges not only are you doing them wrong but you are probably feeling pain in your back knee.
Lunges are always about the front leg. The back leg is there for balance. Keeping weight off the back leg makes lunges harder (in a good way) and helps to eliminate pain in the back knee.
