Life as a Scientist, a Woman’s Perspective | Christine Fleet | TEDxEHC

video thumbnail
How do you juggle a toddler in a research lab? Very carefully. This talk looks at issues facing women (or any caregiver) in scientific careers, along with examples from women who have found ways to be successful as parents and as scientists.

As a member of the Biology Department at Emory & Henry College, Christine M. Fleet's research interests focuses on genetic control of plant growth hormone production. She has published in the areas of genetics, science education and professional development for science graduate students. She began her career as a professor within a month of becoming a parent, which provided opportunity to reflect on some of the challenges facing women (and parents) in science. She is actively involved in mentoring undergraduate student researchers and in supporting initiatives that encourage young women’s participation in science.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
