WHY KETAMINE KILLED 'FRIENDS' STAR MATTHEW PERRY |
|
#MatthewPerry wrote extensively about his struggle with #addiction to alcohol and drugs. In his 2022 memoir, "#Friends, Lovers, and the Big, Terrible Thing," he said he began drinking at 14 and was an alcoholic by 18. Perry claimed to have been to rehab 15 times, detoxed 65 times, and spent about $7 to $9 million trying to get sober. Perry detailed a near-death experience when his colon burst from prolonged opioid use. He spent five months in the hospital, and doctors said he only had a 2% chance of survival. Perry wrote that he faked pain symptoms to get Oxycontin during COVID. He was also getting daily Ketamine infusions during a stay at a Switzerland rehab facility. While in Switzerland, Perry's heart stopped during surgery and doctors broke 8 ribs reviving him.
On October 28, Perry returned to his home after a #pickleball game and was seen by his assistant, who was leaving the house to run errands. At 4 p.m., the assistant returned home and found Perry floating face down in the heated end of the pool. Paramedics pulled Perry out of the pool and pronounced him dead at the scene. The DailyMail reports the actor died from an overdose of the "party drug" ketamine. In a November 2022 interview with CBC Q, Perry said "When I die, I don't want 'Friends' to be the first thing that's mentioned." He hopes that fans remember "that he wants to help people."
