video thumbnail
Thyroid is just a gland. It has two types of variants or disorders, hypo and hyper Hypo is the lower functioning of the thyroid and hyper is the higher functioning of the thyroid. But why are we adding more significance to this in todays days. 25 years back we hardly used to get any thyroid cases in the OPD. But why there is increasing number of patients in the OPD today? Is it the lifestyle or is it the food or the diet and why is it increasing only in the urban population not in the rural population and why is it increasing especially the hypothyroidism that is increasing in the developing countries like India and why not in the west? It is for us to answer to ourselves. What I personally feel about the whole thing is it is a lifestyle created disorders. If you consider all the glands that generate all the hormone in the body. Pituitary, you can consider as the president and thyroid is the prime minister and all other hormones and glands in the body are various ministers handling the body. When the thyroid itself is not working properly, that is underfunctioning of the thyroid glands, how will all the glands secrete hormones properly? So managing the thyroid becomes very important to ensure all the hormones in the body functions very well and handling thyroid is a very tricky thing. It is not only medicine it is total lifestyle, that means diet, exercise and medicines to a great extent, some people do say that a change in the salt helps to a great extent, but yes, it is not proven yet, but yes, a good pesticide free diet and aa good lifestyle with exercise, diet, yoga, can certainly support it. Along with that there are certain medications like herbs that help in controlling the thyroid hormones in the body. There are certain panchakarmas which help in curing this disease especially vamana, virechnana, basti, everything works wonders. Yes, a person who respond with other hormones imbalance in the body, has to be looked for thyroid hormone first. The majority sufferers are females so thyroid has to be paid attention to and Ayurveda has an excellent answer for the same and correcting the lifestyle along with herbs can be the best answer for the same.
