"Not a transgender case": IOC doubles down on Algerian boxer's controversial win |

The International Olympic Committee doubled down on defending their decision to allow Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who had previously failed a “testosterone test,” to compete after a controversial win at the Paris Summer Olympics.
Spokesperson Mark Adams made it very clear that Khelif was a woman and should be allowed to compete as such. "This is not a transgender case," the IOC spokesperson said. "Scientifically this is not a man fighting a woman and I think we need to kind of get that out," he added. Italian boxer Angela Carini pulled out of the Olympics match less than a minute into her fight on Thursday after she sustained a series of crunching blows from her Algerian opponent. Both athletes had been disqualified at the 2023 World Championships after failing IBA eligibility rules that prevent athletes with male XY chromosomes competing in women's events.
