Sky News has seen and heard firsthand the ferocity of the fighting in eastern Ukraine after Russia launched a surprise new offensive near the city of Kharkiv.

Our security and defence editor, Deborah Haynes, witnessed the devastating impact of a huge blast in the frontline town of Vovchansk, barely three miles from the border with Russia, which shattered a residential block of flats.

The town has become a warzone since Russia's renewed attack, and hundreds of residents have fled, uncertain of what the future holds and when it might be safe for them to return.
