Documentary Utopias: Rebuilding Feature Docs Post-Pandemic - Sheffield Doc/Fest 202 |
|
Keeping it Real: Towards A Nonfiction Film Policy for the UK, the biggest ever survey of feature documentary producers and directors, was published on the 11 June 2020. The report has evidenced the dire state of the sector – under-funded, under-representative and often poorly understood by policymakers. The data in the report was collected before the advent of COVID-19, but the problems it identifies remain. In this session, filmmakers and researchers from the UK Feature Docs project invite us to imagine what a radically different industry could look like and how we might get there.
The session is chaired by Mia Bays (Birds Eye View) with producer Rachel Wexler (Bungalow Town), director and producer Lindsey Dryden, producer Eloise King, director Paul Sng and Dr Steve Presence, lead investigator of UK Feature Docs project and author of Keeping it Real: Towards A Nonfiction Film Policy for the UK. The session was produced by the UK Feature Docs research team. UK Feature Docs is a research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
