I this easy jazz guitar lesson we learn different approaches for playing over a static major 7 chord. We use major 7 chord voicings including substitutions and inversion to get voice leading and movement over a static maj7 chord.

When a chart or song calls for major 7 you don't have to just play one chord voicing. You can move all around through different chords that share the same notes, and to me that makes it more fun.
