What Jordan Peterson Said That Jung Said About Nietzsche
Jordan Peterson, as we all know, is heavily influenced by Carl Jung's work and ideas. Nietzsche is also an influential figure that comes into the mix of ideas as Carl Jung's life's work in some sense was an answer to question's Nietzsche posed, namely what to do in the aftermath of the death of God? Jung's formulation of the collective unconscious and the archetypal layer of the psyche enables us to frame religion in a psychological context and gives insight into the understanding of human values and meaning. As Jung saw that our current values spring up from a primordial image within, he sought to look into that evolutionary history of the mind. Nietzsche has similar ideas as he was one of the greatest psychological philosophers whose ideas have had a large impact on the formulation and foundation of modern psychological thought. Nietzsche's response to the question of the death of God was formulated in his idea of the Superman and the 'transvaluation of all values'. Although Jordan Peterson presents Nietzsche and Jung as coming to different conclusions, if we look a little deeper, they at the very least, seem to share more in common than have differences. With these obscure and mystifying figures, it can be hard to get a straight-forward answer as they are always hinting and pointing towards ideas that are not necessarily explicitly formulated, an intuitive look at their work would find hints that they were all pointing towards the same or at least a similar idea. As we all know, Jordan Peterson's work Maps of Meaning takes Jungian ideas and tries to formulate them to articulate them anew, and we are here taking in this information and trying to sort them out to rearticulate them again.
