Turn your assumptions into empathy | Ynhi Thai | TEDxBirminghamSalon

video thumbnail
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this personal TEDx Talk, Ynhi Thai shares the story of her family's immigration from Vietnam when she was a young child, and what she learned about how we can all put our assumptions about others aside.

A medical student at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Ynhi Thai's family immigrated to the United States from Vietnam when she was 4 years old. That experience helped shape her perspecitves on poverty and making assumptions about others. This drive led her to co-found Rethink Coverage, a nonprofit that encourages Alabama's residents and leaders to "rethink" what it means to have access to quality healthcare.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
