Another earthquake strikes western Afghanistan, destroying more homes |
|
Afghan villagers who were asleep in tents after their homes were toppled by an earthquake on Saturday, were jolted awake Wednesday by a second 6.3 magnitude aftershock.
There were no casualties reported in the area following the aftershock. However, in Chah Aab, the village’s some 500 houses were reduced to rubble and residents were in shock. Saturday’s earthquake killed at least 2,400 and injured more than 2,000, the Taliban-led government said. The World Health Organization says most casualties have been women and children. Relief and rescue efforts after Saturday’s earthquakes have been hampered by infrastructure left crumbling by decades or war and a lack of foreign aid.
