Russia-Ukraine conflict: Trudeau updates parliament on Canada's response to Russian invasion | FULL

video thumbnail
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is working quickly to receive Ukrainians fleeing their country in the midst of Russia's invasion.

He made the comments during an address before the House of Commons on Monday evening as a humanitarian crisis unfolds in Europe, with the UN estimating more than half a million people have left Ukraine for neighbouring countries.

Trudeau said Canada's ministry of immigration has seen an increase in the number of processed applications from Ukraine over the past few weeks as tensions boiled.

"We're also looking at the visas of the people who are here and the applications of people fleeing from Ukraine to let them come more quickly to Canada and even stay here after the end of the unfair war," he said in French during a take-note debate on the conflict.

Following Trudeau's address, MPs in the chamber began to debate over the situation in Ukraine and Canada's response.

Opposition MPs used the time to press the government on more aid, while the Liberals spoke about what Canada has done so far to provide assistance to Ukraine.
