Neville Goddard (1905–1972) was a prophet, a teacher with enormous influence, and an author. He did not identify as a metaphysician or adhere to any of the "isms" or "New Thought" teachings that these organisations frequently promoted. Goddard was dispatched to reestablish understanding of the significance of what the ancients wanted to convey to the world and to show the psychological truths contained in the Biblical teachings.

NEVILLE GODDARD’s LIFE
Neville Goddard was born on February 19, 1905, in St. Michael, Barbados(The British West Indies), to merchant, Joseph Nathaniel Goddard, and his wife Wilhelmina Nee Hinkinson. A family of ten males and one girl included Neville as the fourth child.

At the age of seventeen, he travelled to the United States in 1922 on the S.S. Vasari to pursue a career in play. He started dancing, got married to his first wife, and had a son, Joseph Neville Goddard, with her during this time. He became interested in metaphysics after starting up a conversation with a Scotsman who loaned him a number of books on the powers of the mind while he was touring England with his dancing group. When he got back to New York, he quit working in the entertainment business to focus only on researching spiritual and mystical topics.

After a brief first marriage, Neville Goddard spent several years alone until meeting his second wife, a fashion designer, in the 1930s. Victoria, also known as "Vicky," was their daughter after they were married. He was 38 years old when he was recruited into the American Army, something he did not want to do because he thought he was too old to be a soldier and had a wife and daughter at home to care for. After only a few weeks of training, he received an honourable discharge thanks to the power of imagination, as Neville claimed in his speech on March 24, 1972. He had previously been a British citizen, but as a result of his brief Army training, he was now a full citizen of the United States.

NEVILLE GODDARD’S INSTRUCTOR - ABDULLAH

Goddard became increasingly interested in esoteric readings of the Bible after he met Abdullah, an Ethiopian Jew who taught Joseph Murphy and Goddard about esoteric Christianity. Neville went to hear him despite some reluctance in order to appease a persistent friend, noting, "I remember the first night I met Abdullah. Due to the insistence of a man whose judgement I did not trust, I had purposefully put off attending one of his meetings. Ab came up to me after the meeting and said, "Neville, you are six months late." When he said, "The brothers informed me you would be here six months ago," I was startled and wondered how he knew my name. I will stay until you have received everything I have to give you, he continued. I will then leave. Even though he too wanted to leave, he had to wait for me. Neville studied Hebrew, the Kabbalah, and the secret symbolic meaning of Scripture with Abdullah after understanding these topics in this introduction.

NEVILLE GODDARD’S LECTURES

After lengthy travels around the country, Neville settled in Los Angeles where, in the 1950s, he gave a number of presentations on television and radio. He also gave frequent lectures at the Wilshire Ebell Theater for many years to packed houses. He restricted the majority of his talks in the 1960s and early 1970s to Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.

Neville focused only on what he dubbed "The Law," or the method of manifesting one's physical world through imagination, in his early talks and books. The New Thought movement's teachings are most closely aligned with this part of his articulation. During the Great Depression, Neville described how he travelled by sea from New York to visit his family in Barbados without any of his own money in The Law.

He described how, via the exercise of imaginal power, he was able to continue giving lectures while serving in the military and receive an honourable discharge. He told his San Francisco audiences in the 1950s and 1960s about how other people had used The Law. "Learn how to use your imaginal power, lovingly, on behalf of others, for Man is heading towards a world where everything is subject to his imaginal power," he said when discussing it on local Los Angeles television.
