A man in Sweden burned a copy of the Quran outside a mosque on Wednesday, the holy day of Eid al-Adha. The act was widely condemned by Muslim leaders and organizations around the world, who called it a desecration of their holy book.

The man, who has not been identified, was reportedly granted permission by Swedish police to hold the protest. However, the act has been met with widespread anger and frustration from Muslim communities.

In Iraq, the country's top Shia cleric, Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, called the burning of the Quran a "crime against Islam" and said that it should be punished. In Turkey, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the incident was "a provocation" and that it showed "deep disrespect" for Muslims.

The Quran burning incident comes at a time when Islamophobia is on the rise in Europe. In 2022, there were over 1000 anti-Muslim incidents reported in Sweden, according to the Swedish Islamophobia Report.
