(We’re Gonna) Rock Around The Clock (De Knight-Freedman) by Bill Haley And His Comets

First recorded by Sonny Dae & His Knights in late 1953 or early 1954, the future “national anthem of rock ‘n roll“ was waxed by Haley in his first session for Decca Records on April 12th. Upon its release, the single charted briefly on Cash Box (but not on Billboard, despite website entries to the contrary) and then lay mostly dormant through the end of the year. But in the spring of ’55, once people heard it played over the titles of the hit movie “Blackboard Jungle,” Haley’s “Rock Around The Clock” exploded, spending 8 weeks atop Billboard’s best-sellers chart, and eventually selling a purported 25 million copies worldwide. Other 1955 Bill Haley hits included in this collection: “Dim Dim The Lights” “Mambo Rock” “Birth Of The Boogie” “Rock-A-Beatin’ Boogie” “Razzle Dazzle” and “Burn That Candle.”
