Instagram Reels - aimed at competing with TikToks - were pushed heavily in Instagram's algorithm just a few months ago. Whether you were a small account or a larger creator, Reels were a way for fast follower growth on Instagram. This Growth hack was working up until recently; lately we've seen reels become way harder to get views on. In turn, Reels lost their trick of promising you fast growth.

Now, you have lots of creators complaining about the low reach of their reels. Their reels aren't getting any views. Many people used reels as a way to grow quickly on Instagram, but they're seeing their views go down.

In 2022 Instagram reels became over-saturated. The supply and demand for IG Reels is not as good as it used to be. There are more people looking up how to a make an Instagram reel right now, than ever before - there are more people making Instagram reels than ever before. Everybody is making reels - adding sounds, adding music, adding songs, adding tags, adding polls, etc. But because of this, new creators have to fight harder for fewer and fewer views.

The popularity of Instagram reels has killed the growth opportunity of easy followers through IG Reels.

The more people that post Instagram reels, the more competition you have, and the harder it becomes to get pushed in the algorithm and go viral with your video.

Adding onto this problem, Instagram has added Instagram Reels monetization. Making money off of Instagram reels means that more people will start to post more reels. Again, this adds to the new competition in the Reels algorithm. And the bonus that Instagram is paying for reels is really nice. There's a lot of money to be made with Instagram reels in 2023.

Along with this, Instagram and its CEO, adam mosseri, recieved a lot of backlash in 2022 by the "make instagram instagram again" movement.

This movement asked Instagram to kill reels and bring back photos only on Instagram. In other words, many people in IG's user base wanted Instagram to start focusing on reels less. So, in a move to keep users happy, Instagram has started promoting photos more. Photos are now getting traffic in Instagram's algorithm again. For a while, when reels were first edited, they were the only thing that would get reach. Now though, photo posts can get good reach too. Instagram is slowly bringing photos back.

That's the main point of this video. Reels have been nerfed. Photos have been buffed.

Photos can perform well in IG's algorithm. Reels may perform poorly in IG's algorithm.

You can still grow a new page on Instagram in 2023 fast. Just be advised that reels aren't as overpowered as they used to be. And if you're making reels, you should focus on reposting your content to YouTube shorts too. You''ll probably get extra views with that repost method.

Is Instagram going away? Is Instagram dead yet? These are the types of questions that I've seen across social media over the past few months.

Many people are curious / concerned with Instagram's future. Instagram has historically been one of the best social media platforms, but recently, they've run into some issues. Many of Instagram's new updates have been controversial. People want to see what's new with Instagram, but instead it feels like Instagram lacks a clear direction. A lot of "updates" are just minor tweaks. It's been said that Instagram is out of ideas and just copies apps like TikTok. That's why there's been a lot of frustration with Instagram reels and reach on Instagram.

Even with all of Instagram's problems, I still believe that IG is worth growing on in 2023.

Instagram is still a place where you can grow followers fast and make money online. Instagram is a powerful tool for building a real audience and marketing yourself. If you're a business too - Instagram is great for marketing your business.

The key is, you have to know how to grow on Instagram right now, and what tips and growth hacks to use.

Instagram's algorithm can be hacked for fast growth by simply getting great engagement. This engagement has to be real, from real followers. You can't buy fake engagement. But if you consistently have an engagement rate above 10% or 15% on Instagram, then the algorithm will help you to grow faster.
