Suresh Raina represented the new-age Indian cricketer: An attacking left-hander who went for the big shots with impunity and cleared the field with a flourish when at the top of his game, he was also an electric fielder in the circle. All of this, though, was tempered with an iffy technique against the short ball, which was exploited mercilessly in Test cricket and meant Raina's Test career never reached the heights his limited-overs career did, despite starting promisingly.

Suresh Raina stormed into the international scene as a teenage prodigy during the Greg Chappell regime. Typical left-hander's elegance, power game and a fine temperament were the hallmark of Raina the batsman and he exhibited it beautifully during his ODI debut in 2005. After a stupendous start though, his form dipped over the next year and that was followed by a serious injury which meant that the career had hit a roadblock towards the latter part of 2007. The talent was obvious but Raina needed to translate that on the field as well. That's when the IPL Caravan debuted in 2008.

Suresh Raina is the only Indian who has hit a century in all formats of the game. He was named Indian ODI captain after MS Dhoni opted out of the ODI series against the West Indies. A dashing left-hander with the unique ability to pierce the gaps and going for the big shots with aplomb, Raina is a superb fielder to boot is also handy with his gentle right-arm spin. Raina's maiden ODI century that came off 66 balls against Hong Kong during the 2009 Asia Cup, was at the time, the second fastest century in Indian ODI history. Raina's century in the 2010 Twenty20 World Cup made him the third player to score a Twenty20 international century after Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum. Raina played 98 ODIs before becoming the 12th Indian to hit a century on Test debut, but he is yet to cement his place in the Test side.
