Report: Chelsea set sights on 'incredibly aggressive' 25-year-old midfielder, but he could join league champions
Chelsea have reportedly shown interest in RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer as a potential transfer target, but it looks like they’ll miss out on his signature. According to Football.London, the Blues have watched the midfielder during the course of the 2021/22 season. The report mentions the 25-year-old as someone in Chelsea’s sights when discussing transfer targets. However, it is understood the Leipzig star is expected to join German league champions Bayern Munich. Bundesliga giants Bayern have a knack of signing the very best players from around their league, something they could be about to do again. It’s a fresh update that Chelsea’s scouts have had their eyes peeled on Laimer recently. Described previously as “incredibly aggressive” by his ex-manager Adi Hutter, he’s been a talisman in the Leipzig XI in the most recent campaign. The all-action midfielder finished this season with five goals and six assists in 41 games across all competitions, which did include scoring against Manchester City in the Champions League. A high-profile move to Bayern could help the Austria international elevate his game even further. Chelsea are already linked with a couple of Leipzig players this summer, including reports that their 20-year-old defender Josko Gvardiol is being targeted by the Blues. Thomas Tuchel’s side are reportedly big admirers of their star attacker Christopher Nkunku, too. The German team play some eye-catching football and it’s no surprise to hear so many of their players linked with glamorous transfers.
