A small helicopter used a tow line hooked to a ladder to lift two linemen at a time as they rode the ladder to get from the ground to the tops of high-transmission towers south of Belleville Friday morning. The towers and lines run east to west, and the chopper was using the Ameren substation on Park Road as a landing site. A worker at the scene said that it was faster and easier to transport them this way, rather than have the linemen climb each tower to get to the top. They were doing maintenance work and installing fiber lines on the towers, he also said.
