Method: - Pour 3 cups of water into a saucepan and bring it to a boil on low to medium heat - Add in 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger and let it simmer for 2 minutes - Crush your spices in a mortar and pestle to form a coarse crumble - Add the crushed spices to the simmering saucepan, along with 3 teaspoons of black tea, partially cover the saucepan and let it all boil for 4-5 minutes - Add in 1 cup of milk and boil for another 3-4 minutes or until the milk comes to a boil (once again, partially covering the saucepan). Keep an eye on the saucepan so the milk doesn't boil over! - Once this is complete, remove the saucepan from the heat, strain the tea through a strainer and serve into cups (or huge mugs if you are anything like me). - Add in 1 teaspoon of sweetener (eg. coconut sugar, maple syrup, regular sugar, stevia) and enjoy! #masalachai #chai #chairecipe |
