I had never planned on recording this Raga. I have never practiced or even wanted to play this raga. But all of a sudden, this raga presented itself. So, let me start by asking for forgiveness for my mistakes.

This is probably one of the most difficult ragas that I’ve played so far.the phrases, long meends, swarsthans aren’t easy to play on Rudra Veena. As this is an Old Raag, (also in a way little rare) it has many different interpretations by many maestros. I really like Pt. Nikhil Banerjee and Pt. Hariprasad Chourasia’s interpretations on their instruments. However the version that I played is very close to a Carnatic Raga named “Basantha” (correct me if I’m wrong). Similar interpretations can be found by Bade Ustaad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar & Ustaad Baharuddin Dagar’s recordings. But as I belong to both Bishnupur Gharana and the Dagar tradition, all the Bishnupur ornaments, mijrabs, bols, gamaks are weaved into my playing. I hope you like this interpretation.
