The complainer. Complainers find something wrong in everything they come across. They are never happy and can turn the most wonderful situation into a gripe fest. They aren’t interested in anyone else’s positive views and are quick to counter anything remotely positive with something negative. These people enjoy finding fault in everyone and everything. It brings them joy to complain. Those who are overly competitive. A little competition is healthy and can keep us on our toes, but there are people who take this too far. Typically this is coupled with envy or jealousy. These people try to undermine the success of others. They feel if they can blow someone else’s candle out, theirs will burn brighter. They find it impossible to be happy for the success of others and instead feel cheated and resentful. The know it all. The know it all only wants to hear their own ideas and opinions. They are quick to dismiss the input of others. They love to hear themselves talk and manipulate most meetings and conversations to center around them. They are not team players and are quick to criticize any decision that doesn’t involve them. The egomaniacs. Again, a little ego is good. Actually I like leaders who have a bit of an ego because when they couple that with passion for a project, they can create magic. However, when ego is the number one driver for an individual, that person will always place their own needs and self before others. Believing and acting as if you are better than everyone around you is not a good way to win friends and will create divisiveness. Those who lack accountability. Typically these people are always a victim of some unfortunate injustice. They make excuses, blame others and shirk responsibility for any mistake. They rarely take charge of anything because they don’t want to be accountable for the outcome…unless it is a good outcome, then they are the first to take credit. Gossips. The gossips are always talking, speculating, creating stories that evolve and grow as they make their way through the organization. They claim to have the inside information about the company and/or employees. They love to spread their information to anyone who will listen. The backstabbers. Backstabbers pretend to be your friend. They pull you into the fold of their confidence and love to share information. They also love to receive information. These people are tricky because you want to like them and you enjoy working with them, but they have no loyalties and will throw anyone under the bus to advance their personal agenda. Those who are hateful. Some people are just mean. Fortunately, not many but there are some people who simply enjoy causing misery to others. They intentionally exclude people, align factions against others and can shift the entire energy of a room just by their presence. These people have no loyalties and can turn on someone in an instant. |
