Enormous Toadzilla found in Australia | CBC Kids News

video thumbnail
An enormous female cane toad, nicknamed Toadzilla by the rangers who discovered it, was recently found in Conway National Park in Queensland, Australia. Cane toads are an invasive species introduced to Australia in 1935 in an attempt to curb pest populations. Without natural predators, the toads overpopulated and now threaten the local ecosystem. Toadzilla weighed 2.7 kilograms, more than twice the average weight for a cane toad. Due to the risk posed to native Australian wildlife, it was humanely euthanized by the park rangers. Press play to see Toadzilla next to a normal cane toad.
