www.allnursingnotes.com CHRON’S DISEASE Lower right area abdominal pain Affects primarily the small intestine (ileum) Assessment: – diarrhea – weight loss – bleeding Treatment: Treatment may include drugs, nutrition supplements, surgery, or a combination of these options. The goals of treatment are to control inflammation, correct nutritional deficiencies, and relieve symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. Drug Therapy Anti-Inflammation Drugs. ♠ Sulfasalazine (Azulfidine) (most common) - an antiinflammatory agent - there can be change of color in urine (orange-yellow olor) Side Effects: (Sulfasalazine) Nausea vomiting gastric distress anorexia (loss of appetite) Cortisone or Steroids. Immune System Suppressors. Infliximab (Remicade). Antibiotics. ♠ REMEMBER FOR THE NCLEX: Sulfasalazine (Azulfidine)- is the drug of choice for treating Crohn’s Disease. |
