1st RECORDING OF: All Shook Up (as 'I’m All Shook Up') - David Hill (1956)

video thumbnail
“David Hill’ was the recording pseudonym for singer/actor/songwriter David Hess. Among his better-known compositions were “Start Movin’” (Sal Mineo), “I Got Stung” (Elvis), and “Speedy Gonzales” (Pat Boone), which David also recorded under the name David Dante.

As shown on this original 78rpm label scan, prolific song-hit writer Otis Blackwell was the sole composer of the tune. But as a condition for Elvis agreeing also to record it soon thereafter, Elvis was given co-writing credit and his publishing company received one-half of the publishing royalties. Subsequent Hill pressings of the single reflected that change and also shortened the title to “All Shook Up.”

The original single was issued on Aladdin 3359 - I’m All Shook Up (Otis Blackwell) by David Hill, orchestra & chorus conducted by Ray Ellis, recorded November 7, 1956
