Not only does he have amazing abilities as a percussionist and bandleader, but his stand out showmanship and dancing is what has also touched audiences from Puerto Rico to the stage of Madison Square Garden, NYC and venues worldwide.
Roberto Roena Y Su Apollo Sound back in the 70's and 80's were instrumental in introducing a new sound of Funk, Latin, & Soul by combining these styles the Roena way which attracted audiences from around the world influencing the music makers and fans of many other genres including Jazz, Hip Hop and Latin Music as a whole. Apollo Sound arguably one of the best Latin salsa bands in Puerto Rico", as quoted by George Nenadich of Sirius Radio, Roena has played bongos and congas with many of the greatest Salsa & Latin performers such as Ruben Blades, Tito Cruz, Papo Sanchez, Adalberto Santiago, Elias Lopes, and Julio "Gunda" Merced. Roberto shines as a dancer, a leader of orchestras and over all as an electrifying entertainer that breathes energy and life into everything he does!
Summer Stage has given its seal of approval to Louie Vega & Roberto Roena's Cosa Buena, June 14th 2014 Roberto and Y Su Appollo Sound with Louie on deck 1's & 2's have been invited to CENTRAL PARK to take NYC and Summer Stage by storm! Back in the studio in the creation of "Good Things", being that Roberto Roena is a FANIA ALL STAR Louie knew he had to bring together some of the EOL All Stars to give COSA BUENA its authentic vibe. With Axel Tosca & Junito Davila on keyboards, and Luisito Quintero & House Of Rumba keeping the beat, Jose Mangual singing the Choruses, Roberto Roena himself thundering on the bongos & cow bell, and our very own Gene Perez on electric bass the studio came alive and COSA BUENA was born! "When Roberto and I went into the studio everything just happened so naturally, it was a match made in heaven!!!", Vega says.
That very same energy and spirit in the studio is what Louie & Roberto have in store for Central Park's Summer Stage this coming June 14, 2014.
