The Banshees of Inisherin is a dark comedy-drama and may be my favorite surprise of 2022. The story follows two lifelong friends who suddenly end their friendship with shocking consequences for both of them. The plot deals with themes of relationship and purpose in a really tense way. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson play the conflicted friends so well I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re both nominated for awards. And the beauty of the movie is how small scale the story is and how relatable the dialogue and emotions are. With Martin Mcdonagh as the director and writer for Banshees, it’s grounded in reality with big laughs and strong sorrow. The movie sent me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions watching it by myself but it would certainly be enjoyable with your closest friends along for the ride.
