Teacher for 22 years Lisa Cochrum has more experience teaching than her students have breathing! In this powerful talk Cochrum challenges us to question how teachers "label" their students.
Lisa Cochrum teaches Biology and Earth Science at Saratoga High School. Having spent the last 22 years teaching the underclassmen science courses she has worked hard to develop new ways of reaching a diverse student population with a variety of learning styles. She is passionate about science education and believes that every student has untapped potential. Cochrum has a learning disability that required her to learn how to compensate for her own learning challenges while completing a B.S. in Biology from Westmont College and a Master’s in Education from National University. She often spends her vacations traveling overseas and integrates her many adventures into her curriculum. During her travels to 80 countries, she has had the opportunity to experience the world’s biodiversity and unique cultures, which has impacted the way she teaches. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx |
