If you’re unfamiliar, the actress is best known for her roles in Westworld, Dear White People, and Thor: Ragnarok. But now, she’s lending her voice to the queer community. In an interview with published Friday, Thompson, 34, comes out as ually fluid—a fact, let us remind you, that she has no obligation to share with the world—while dancing around rumors that she and popstar Janelle Monáe, 32, are dating. “I’m attracted to men and also to women," she said. Thompson portrayed a biual character, Valkyrie, in Thor, and that she’s publicly chosen to address her uality is seen as a win for the visibility of LGBTQ people. Though Thompson did not explicitly label herself as biual, her comments highlight the biual community, an often-underrepresented segment of queer culture. Earlier this year, Monáe came out as panual (which, unlike biuality, refers to an attraction to all gender identities on the spectrum, rather than the traditional male and female genders) in an interview with , and also released her third album, Dirty Computer, which fans hailed as a . Since 2015, Thompson has appeared in more than one of Monáe’s music videos, made red carpet alongside the singer and been seated next to her at major Hollywood events. Rich Polk/Getty Images She loosely opened up about her relationship with Monáe. “It’s tricky, because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space, and also wanting to use your platform and influence,” she said. “That was something I was conscientious of in terms of this declaration around Janelle and myself," she continued, noting her supportive family. "I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved ones. But so many people don’t. So, do I have a responsibility to talk about that? Do I have a responsibility to say in a public space that this is my person?” To that, we say no. Thompson made it clear she chose to come out in a show of solidarity for her community; however, she’s not responsible for confirming the nitty gritty details of her love life. Because at the end of the day, who cares? “We love each other deeply,” she said of her feelings toward Monáe. “We’re so close, we vibrate on the same frequency. If people want to speculate about what we are, that’s okay. It doesn’t bother me.” If that works for you, Tessa, then it works for us. #Westworld’sTessaThompsonSaysShe’sAttracted, #Women, #Men #News, #Celebrity, #latest, #JanelleMonae |
