The right kind of patriotism | Mustafaen Kamal | TEDxLSE |
|
Patriotism should be about inclusion rather than exclusion. Too often debates about belonging are focused on who should not be part of a group. Yet, the last year has highlighted the importance of collaboration. Had it not been for the serendipity of diverse teams, would we have developed the coronavirus as quickly as we did? With national identity again dominating political discourse, Mustafaen argues that patriotism is most useful when defined in terms of inclusion. Mustafaen Kamal is the founder of the Dil Internship Project and "Close the Lockdown Gap." An alumni of both Oxford and LSE, Mustafaen is eager to ensure that opportunities are as accessible as possible regardless of socio-economic circumstances. The initiatives he has founded involve ensuring a more equitable distribution of human capital across the globe. His work involves coordinating with international organisations and governments to work effectively at a grassroots level in developing countries. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
