Igbos Created Lagos Says Okwesilieze+El-Rufai To Be Probed+Cubana Chief Priest Arraigned| OjyOkpe

In the United Arab Emirates, heavy thunderstorms rains on Tuesday caused the cancellation of several flights and significant damage accoss the country.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology, it was the largest amount of rainfall over a 24 hour period since records began in 1949.

Homes and roads were flooded, and ‘partially’ submerged cars were left abandoned. The tarmac at Dubai International Airport was also flooded as planes made their way around what looked more like a lake.

In Nigeria, The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, has called on Nigerians to take proactive measures to address the potential flooding risks, with 31 states and 148 local government councils that have been identified as vulnerable.

The high flood risk states include: Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto among others

In the United Kingdom, Two Nigerian professors, Olutayo Adesina and Abubakar Sani, have been awarded £1.7 million pounds in research grants, by the British Academy to undertake research projects on Nigeria’s historical and cultural domain.

Adesina and Sani, along with eight other professors from across the world, were announced as recipients of the British Academy Global Professorships Award, which aims to foster collaboration between leading international researchers and UK-based institutions.

Dr Adesina who is a Professor of History; at the University of Ibadan, received £879 thousands pounds to work with the University of Manchester during his study, which is to begin this year, While Abubakar Sule Sani who is a Professor of Archaeology at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, received £892 thousand pounds for his research project with the University of East Anglia.

Former Enugu State governor, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo has stirred up a debate online after he stated during an interview, that the igbos created many states in Nigeria, including Lagos and Kano.

Dr Okwesilieze spoke to Symfoni TV, where he also address several issues including what he termed as the marginalization of the igbos.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday, set up a 13-member fact-finding committee to investigate financial transactions, loans, grants and project executions under the eight-year administration of former governor Nasir el-Rufai.

During a special session, House speaker, Hon. Yusuf Liman moved the motion on matters of public importance, asking the House to investigate the loans borrowed by the former governor, stressing that it was important for the people of the state to know how the loans were used.

The Kano state anti-corruption and public complaints commission has brought fresh charges against the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The chair of the anti-graft agency said the commission is investigating a case in which the Ganduje administration allegedly diverted N51 billion Naira.

The commission also stated that during the twilight of the ‘Ganduje administration, N1 billion Naira was withdrawn from the state's accounts for road rehabilitation, but the sum was allegedly diverted.

In Niger state, Governor Umar Bago, has issued a “shoot at sight” order to security operatives in the state, amid heightened insecurity, and has also declared a state of emergency, after two persons were killed during an attack by thugs in Minna, the state’s capital.

Governor Bago gave the orders while speaking with journalists during the annual durbar festival on Sunday.

The governor blamed the unrest on artisanal miners, adding that “maximum force” has been adopted to tackle the situation

Just days after popular cross dresser, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison, for abusing the Naira, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday, filed a three-count charge against famous nightlife promoter, Pascal Okechukwu also known as ‘Cubana Chief Priest for alleged abuse of the Naira.

The anti-graft agency in a statement released on Sunday, had said that it is investigating several celebrities who may have been involved in currency abuse, Cubanna chief priest was accused of spraying and tampering with the naira at a social event on February 13th 2024, at Eko Hotel, in the tune of N500,000, a crime punishable under Section 21 of the CBN Act 2007. He was also accused of spraying money back in in 2020.
