7. Hypothalamic and Pituitary causes

Hyperthyroidism

4. Thyroid Storm (Propanolol, Lugol's Iodine, PTU, Steroids, Diltiazem)
Initially, inflammation of the thyroid causes a leak resulting in excess thyroid hormones (hyperthyroidism). Over time, the inflammation prevents the thyroid from producing enough hormones (hypothyroidism).
Symptoms include fatigue and unexplained weight gain.
Treatment with synthetic hormone medication is usually effective.
ashimoto Thyroiditis: Risk factors, pathogenesis, signs and symptoms and treatment. There are a variety of risk factors for Hashimoto’s including being female, genetics (ex. HLA-DR3 gene), family history and stress among others. The pathogenesis of Hashimoto’s is due to the production of auto-antibodies including anti-thyroglobulin among a variety of others.
