A massive fire has closed Interstate 85 northbound near Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett County police said it is a tractor-trailer that caught fire in a crash.

They said I-85 NB will be shut down beginning at the DeKalb County line until further notice. Emergency repairs are underway because all five lanes on a part of the interstate were confirmed damaged by the fire.
I-85 southbound was also closed in the area. Southbound lanes have since reopened.

Drivers were being evacuated from their cars and people from businesses nearby.

Gwinnett County police said two people died in the crash. Their identities have not yet been released.
