Altering Adversities into Opportunities | Yatin Pandya | TEDxSIUHinjewadi |

Yatin Pandya talks about the design changes that were bought up due to stressful conditions faced by people in the society, which led to the innovative transformation of the life of the poor and needy. One of the innovations involves installing corrugated sheets that bring in ample light and neutral ventilation at negligible cost, especially for the houses located in slums whose three sides are shared with the neighbors, leaving the inner room dark and hot and deprived of ventilation. Another innovation was transforming domestic and urban waste into affordable building components that otherwise get piled up to form a mountain at the dumpsites. The third innovation revolved around the 2001 Kutch earthquake. While keeping the social and traditional ethos intact, holistic development with a sustainable approach, 11 villages were rehabilitated. It is going against the usual and traditional approaches to begin a sustainable approach to a better tomorrow. Yatin Pandya has worked on various projects, including city planning, urban design, mass housing, architecture, interior design, product design, and conservation. He has approximately 200 articles published in national and international journals. Several of his architectural publications have been published globally, including "Concepts of space in traditional Indian architecture" and "Elements of space creating." He has also been involved in preparing over 30 video documentaries on Architecture. He has his firm called FOOTPRINTS E.A.R.T.H, a professional service organization involved in environmental studies, architectural design, indigenous research, alternative technology and affordable housing. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
