Systemic risk: is there a trade-off between uniformity and stability?

video thumbnail
Global financial regulation has been focused since 2008 on restoring stability to financial markets and institutions. While this objective has been largely achieved, a number of elements show that this may have been done at the cost of the diversity of actors, investment horizons and organisations operating in the financial system.

Christian Thimann's talk, Head of Strategy, Sustainability and Public Affairs at AXA, will focus on recent evolutions in the systemic regulation framework proposed by the G20 and Federation of Small Businesses, taking the insurance sector as an example.

About the Speaker

As member of the Executive Committee of the AXA Group, Christian Thimann is Head of Strategy, Sustainability and Public Affairs, in charge of coordinating the group’s strategic orientation and is responsible for the assessment of public policy issues of interest to insurers. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Alliance Bernstein Investment Managers, New York. He is also an External Member of the French Council of Economic Advisers, and affiliated Professor at the Paris School of Economics.

He previously held senior positions at the European Central Bank (ECB), including Director General and Adviser to the President from November 2008 until December 2013. From 1995 to 1998, he worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC.
