NGK: Nandha Gopalan Kumaran is upcoming Indian Tamil political action thriller film written and directed by Selvaraghavan. Suriya, Rakul Preet Singh, and Sai Pallavi play the lead roles while Jagapati Babu plays a pivotal role.[2] Yuvan Shankar Raja composes the music and Sivakumar Vijayan is the cinematographer. The film is being produced by S. R. Prakashbabu and S. R. Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures. Pre-production and principal photography commenced in January 2018 while a first look teaser was released on 14 February 2019. The film is slated to release on 31 May 2019.

Following the films Nenjam Marapathillai and Mannavan Vanthanadi, it was announced on 17 November 2016[5] that director Selvaraghavan would direct actor Suriya's 36th film, to be produced by S.R. Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures,[6] and the film is expected to enter production in January 2018 and was touted to be a Diwali 2018 release.

Principal photography of the film commenced on 22 January 2018 with actress Sai Pallavi playing the female lead with Neeraja Kona as the costume designer for the film.[7] and later Selva announced he is collaborating with Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, and Sivakumar Vijayan for cinematography,[8][9] while actress Rakul Preet Singh will reportedly play the second female lead.

The first look of the film and title NGK which is said to be, Nandha Gopalan Kumaran the character name of Suriya in the film, were unveiled on March 5, 2018.

The teaser was released on Feb 14 2019 in Tamil and Telugu. A new poster was released on director Selvaraghavan’s birthday 5 March 2019. The film is release on May 31.

Suriya joins political bandwagon with Selvaraghavan's NGK

Movies based on politics, farmer crisis, and corruption in daily life appear to be the trend in Tamil cinema these days and the Suriya-starrer NGK covers all the three subjects.

This is first time actor Suriya and director Selvaraghavan have teamed up. However, the topic is not new to both. Suriya played a student leader-turned-politican in Maniratnam's Aaytha Ezhuthu, while Selvaraghavan's critically acclaimed Pudupettai follows the story of a gangster with political aspirations.

NGK, the trailer of which was released on Monday, features Suriya playing the titular role of Nandha Gopalan Kumaran, a youth who is "mad about his country" and wants to "clean the system." And what better option does he have than to join politics? However, NGK initially believes in activism. When he is forced to take a political plunge, his mother calls it a "graveyard," while a politician reminds him of his place in the system. But his wife, played by Sai Pallavi, encourages him.

The movie also stars Rakul Preet Singh, who gets stunt sequence, a rarity for women in Tamil cinema. There are also Jagapathi Babu, Sampath Raj and Ponvannan in key roles.

Yuvan Shankar Raja is in charge of the music, while Sivakumar Vijayan has cranked the camera. Bankrolled by Dream Warrior Pictures, the movie is set to release on May 31.
